New Berlin West DECA members participating in the Polar Plunge. They each raised $75.

Four feet of solid ice was removed from the McKinley Marina on February 15th so that brave individuals could plunge into the freezing cold Lake Michigan water.  A group of those polar plungers were New Berlin West DECA members.

The DECA members raised $75 each to donate to the “Freezin’ for a Reason” polar plunge event.  All proceeds went to the Special Olympics.

Some DECA members raised the $75 but only went along to watch their classmates run full speed into the ice cold water.  “I don’t regret not doing the plunge one bit,” said Senior Jenna Brzeski.

Other plungers, like Sophomore Michaela Hamilton, enjoyed everything about the experience. “The polar plunge was really fun and for a good cause.”

The DECA coordinator, Mrs. Maly, is hoping to keep this polar plunge tradition going, and even incorporate a costume theme for the plungers in the years to come.  “Even if you aren’t in DECA you can still participate in the plunge.  The more people, the better.”
