The Fault in Our Starts is only one of the many books that is being turned into a movie this year. Many readers have high hopes that the movies will stick to the books.

On March 20th, Divergent kicked off a wave of new book-to-movie adaptations coming out in 2014. Book readers were, to say the least, displeased with the film. Many viewers who read the book were upset at its altered plot that did not stick to the one on paper. The film itself was flawless, but the plot left out important characters and conflicts that round out the series as a whole. As the story moves into the next two books, it will be hard to convey the messages. As a reader, starting the wave off with a bad plot is not the way to win them over. You can bet Insurgent, the next book in the series, will have less viewers than Divergent.

Book readers hope that the next book-to-movie to come out, The Fault In Our Stars, will be closer to the plot in the book. A standalone book by John Green, this story follows the shortened lives of two teens with cancer searching for their own “Little Infinity.” Filled with smart catch humor and tear jerking moments, this book makes you feel as though you are best friends with these individuals. Readers seem satisfied with the trailer so far and hope to see the plot continued on the big screen.

Soon after The Fault In Our Stars comes, the first book in its series, The Maze Runner, will follow. Thomas wakes up in a box remembering nothing but his name. The gates of the box open and he steps out into the Glade, the center of a maze, where a bunch of boys set up camp. No one knows why a new boy comes in the box once a month. No one knows why they don’t remember anything. All they know is that they have to solve the maze. Just like The Fault In Our Stars, the trailer seems to be true to the book.

Next in the line-up for books to movies is The Giver, a book most people read in their 7th grade curriculums. The Giver is set in a similar scene as Divergent, a utopian society where everyone knows their place. One boy, Jonas, doesn’t seem to fit in like the rest. He tries to disguise it, but it doesn’t work. The Elders know he is different. To their society, conformity is key. The book came out in 1993, quite a while ago. Perhaps the movie has been in the works so long because the author, Lois Lowry, has been perfecting it. We will find out come August, when it’s planned release date.

The last one of the year is the first movie to the last book in The Hunger Games Series, Mockingjay Part 1. Set to release a year after Catching Fire, this movie follows the revolution as it continues to break down Panem. The previous movies have generally done a good job at sticking to the plot, so readers have high hopes for this upcoming film.
