Halloween is a great time to participate in all things terrifying. If you love October and Halloween in general, here are some great things you can do to make the most of the month.

There are always the classic things to do during October, such as going to a haunted house and watching scary movies. As for haunted houses, some options are to visit the Abandoned Haunted House, Fear Grounds, or the Hill Has Eyes.

The Abandoned Haunted House is different than others because it is actually held in an old abandoned building that is thought to be haunted. It features two different haunted houses, one which is more targeted towards jump scares, and the other one focused more on the senses and messing with them. The price is $20, which includes both houses, and it is open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays.

The Hill Has Eyes is overall a completely different experience than any other haunted house could give you because it is all done outdoors. It has five separate haunts that each offer a different terrifying experience. This haunt is also open on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays and it costs $25, $29, or $34 depending on the day.

Lastly, Fear Grounds is a great place to go if you want the classic haunted house experience. It is hosted at the Waukesha County fair grounds and features three separate haunted houses. It’s open on Fridays and Saturdays, and it costs $30 for all haunts, but only $13 if you’d prefer to just go to one.

If you’re looking for more ways to be frightened, another option is watching some horror movies. Depending on how easily you scare, you might want to watch only certain ones. There’s always classic scary movies, such as The Shining, the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, and Final Destination. These movies aren’t as terrifying but are definitely worth a watch. Some of the more modern movies would be better to watch if you enjoy jumpscares. Movies like Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Oculus, Sinister, and V/H/S are guaranteed to make you jump.

Another way to get your horror movie fix is to go to the ridge cinema. On certain days, the theater is showing horror movies. On the 22nd through the 24th, they are showing the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and on the 29th and 30th they are showing The Exorcist.

If you still haven’t got your fill of scares yet, you could choose a route that feels much more real. You could explore abandoned areas near you, or other places that you might find scary. If you want the full experience, it would be best to do this at night. If you’re still not scared, find a cemetery at night and bring a Ouija board to use and it’s guaranteed that you will end up terrified.

Not everything in October has to focus on being scary, though. If you’d rather just take your time to appreciate fall, you can always go on nature walks, pick apples, and decorate pumpkins. A great way to do all of these things in one is to visit a corn maze. There are a few in the area in which you get to complete a corn maze which then opens up onto a pumpkin patch where you can select your pumpkin. After that you can walk around the area and appreciate the fall weather while decorating your pumpkin or playing some small carnival games there. The Prospect Hill Garden Center is a perfect example of this, and it’s cheap, too.

You could also make some food that’s perfect for the fall season. When it comes to food, fall is perfect for anything warm since it’s getting colder outside. You could always make hot chocolate, tea, or apple cider, caramel apples, and pumpkin bread. There are also tons of great recipes and directions online to make pretty much any fall-themed food you could think of.

October is the perfect month to hang out with friends, be terrified or to just enjoy the beautiful scenery and nice fall weather. There’s tons of things to do, so make sure to use your time wisely!
