The Force Awakens opens on Friday.

Jimmy Karolek, Austin Graf, and Alex Zerman

The fan favorite movie franchise Star Wars announced some great details about the seventh episode, The Force Awakens. To prepare for the film junior Jimmy Karolek, junior Alex Zerman, and freshman Austin Graf came together to talk about some questions that fans hope will be answered.

Facts About The Film

The first word spoken in the movie is “This” as stated by J.J. Abrams himself in an interview with Jimmy Kimmel. The film is set about 30 years after the Return of the Jedi (Released 1983) which is totally accurate for the time period in real life. Finn, the newest protagonist, is now in possession of Luke and Anakin’s Lightsaber. Rian Johnson confirmed in August 2014 that he would direct Episode VIII. In March 2015, Isaac confirmed he would reprise his role as Poe Dameron. Like The Force Awakens, filming for Episode VIII will take place at Pinewood Studios near London. Some second-unit filming was done in September 2015 in Ireland with principal photography to begin in March 2016. It is scheduled for release on May 26, 2017. In August 2015, Colin Trevorrow was announced as the director of Episode IX.

Before Discussion

Austin: Is Kylo Ren related to Han Solo, Luke Skywalker, or neither?

Alex: Ok… (Slaps hands together) Let’s begin!

Alex: I believe that there might be a tiny chance that Luke is possibly Kylo Ren. It’s not solid evidence but it’s confirmed that Luke, Han, and Lala show up at some point. And Luke isn’t shown in the trailer. So maybe he has been in the trailers the whole time? But this is just me assuming  and you know what they say about assuming. Its makes a fool out of someone.

Jimmy: I have to agree because if history repeats itself, (the comics) Luke would turn just like his father did. If what we’re saying is true then Kylo is Luke.

Austin: There are also rumors that Kylo and Rey are twins, I think it’s Han’s kids.

Austin: Who found Anakin’s lightsaber as seen in the trailer and used by Finn against Kylo?

Alex: It could be that cool new robot BB-8. But i’m not sure where he would hold it. I mean his lower half is a ball and his head is the size of a baseball. But that’s my guess.

Austin: I believe it is BB-8 who is holding it because the size of his body would match it.

Austin: Will Abrams follow the opening crawl tradition where after the crawl, there is a space ship?

Jimmy: They Better! That is one of the things Star Wars is known for. Honestly I don’t think they would even imagine.

Alex: Hopefully yes. Even with a new director, I hope they keep some traditions from the older movies.

Austin: I believe as seen in one of the trailers, you see Rey open something with holes in it and he will use that as an illusion.

Austin: Will a major character die because Rey is crying over someone’s body in one of the trailers?

Alex:  Definitely. I think it could possibly be her parent(s) because based off the her information, Rey is trying to find her family. Finding out they’re dead could be used as a stepping stone to build a character arc.

Austin: In the original trilogy, Harrison Ford, wanted to be cut off. So, I believe he will die but he is such an important character so it would suck.

Jimmy: Do you think that they will use mostly the old music from the first six movies or use new music that sounds more “new age?”

Alex: I hope the movie features new music, but also keeps in mind the theme of it’s predecessor. Such as powerful crescendos and having quiet parts in music to let the viewer have time to let everything sink in. If a bunch of random dubstep plays I’m going to be pretty bummed.

Alex: Now I have a question for the both of you. It’s confirmed that there’s going to be a big plot twist during the movie, with claiming it’s going to rival Darth Vader’s identity from The Empire Strikes Back. What do you think that might be?

Jimmy: Theorists will try and answer that question. But in all reality, we can’t be sure. As we have seen in the past, curve balls as big as “Luke I am your father” have come into play. If I were to try to answer the question, I would have to say that Kylo is Luke. Yes it would be obvious after what happened to Anakin and Darth Vader, but I will leave it up to you to decide. Until then, may the force be with you.
