Last Friday 10/16, the Vikings squared off in a conference matchup against Wauwatosa West, and it was definitely a night to forget. The Vikings lost 50-7 in a game that didn’t have many positive moments.
Over From the Start
New Berlin West got a stop on the first possession against Tosa West but from then on stops were hard to come by. Tosa had multiple fourth down conversions in the first quarter including one 35+ yard run to set up a touchdown run from the one-yard line. Getting stops on fourth down was a big problem for New Berlin all game as in the second quarter Tosa West converted another fourth and goal to extend their lead to 14-0.
Potential Rally
After New Berlin was down early they had a slight resurgence with a drive ending with a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Carson Rose to tight end Billy Wesolowski. Although this was the only score of the game for the Vikings, they had some potential opportunities to score including a fake punt converted late in the second quarter, and multiple drives with 10+ yard runs from running back Anar Ganbaator and quarterback Carson Rose, all of these drives ended with no points being scored though.
Second Half Dominance
The Vikings trailed at the half 30-7 which isn’t insurmountable but as soon as the second half began Tosa West continued their dominance. The Trojans scored early in the second half which essentially deflated all hope of a comeback. West stalled on their first drive of the second half and later threw an interception to end the third quarter. The fourth quarter was a combination of both teams trying to run out the clock and move onto the next game.
Next Game
New Berlin West’s next matchup is against Catholic Memorial on October 30th, where they hope to bounce back and make a late season run.
