Homecoming is back! For both freshmen and sophomores, this is a new experience that many of them are excited for. Riley Henrichs, a sophomore at New Berlin West said, “I am looking forward to experiencing all of Homecoming week for the first time as a high schooler, especially the football game on Friday.” Juniors and seniors are also excited to have the experience of Homecoming week back at New Berlin West.

The celebrations of Homecoming week begin Sunday night with a drive-in movie. Bring your friends and park your car in the field house parking lot. The movie that will be shown is Mean Girls and it will begin at 7:00 pm.

“I’m most excited about dressing up for spirit days,” said Sophia Powless, a sophomore at New Berlin West. On Monday, the spirit week starts off strong with state merch. At night, there will be trivia night, hosted by Journalism. Trivia night will include a 50-50 raffle, prizes, a bake sale, and more. The entry fee is $5.00. No signup is required, just show up with your team of two to six people at 6:30 pm in the library.

The theme for Tuesday is dynamic duo. For example, dress up as Spongebob and Patrick, Mickey and Minnie, or peanut butter and jelly. During lunch and flex, a rummage sale will take place in the front lobby. The rummage sale will include old spirit wear and all items will be sold for $2.00. There will also be food trucks for lunch in the parking lot. The food trucks available will be Tot’s on the Street, Double B’s BBQ, Streetza- Pizza, Fatty Patty, and Tatay’s Truck. Menus and pricing for the food trucks can also be found in the email that was sent out regarding Homecoming information.

Wednesday’s theme is class color day! Seniors wear tie dye, juniors wear purple, sophomores wear green, freshmen wear pink, middle schoolers wear blue, and staff wear black. During lunch and flex, the spirit wear rummage sale will continue. Make sure you watch the girl’s powder puff game at 6:00 pm on the football field, followed by a bonfire.

The theme for Thursday is decade day, so come dress up as your favorite decade. Middle Schoolers get excited for the flashlight candy hunt. Students need to bring their own flashlight and bag and meet at 7:30 pm near the ticket booth leading to the football field.

Bring out your Viking spirit for Friday’s theme, blue and gold! There will be a pep rally at 1:30 pm which will feature “the poms team, the cheer team, the Homecoming court, and recognize fall sports as well as play a school game of tug of war. Also, stay tuned for guy poms!” said Audrey Flanders, public relations officer of SALU and MC of the pep rally.  After school, bring your blue and gold merch to the varsity football game. The game will begin at 7:00 pm against Wauwatosa East.

Saturday, the Homecoming dance will take place. The theme for the dance this year is Hollywood. The doors will open at 6:45 pm and the music will start at 7:00 pm. Tickets will be on sale until September 30th. After talking to a variety of high school students at New Berlin West, many expressed how excited they are to experience a school dance again after a year without dances.
