On April 23rd, DECA had its monthly meeting. DECA is a well- known business club at New Berlin West. Every month, there is a member meeting where the seven officers, Mariah Flood, Skylar Jakubiak, Sam Lange, Jada Bilden, Maggie Blank, Chloe Schneider, and Lexi Krajcir, go over the past month’s accomplishments. This month, the meeting went over DECA week, students going to ICDC, and the member of the month.
The first topic of the meeting was DECA week, which was March 24-March 27th. There were bake sales, Mr. NBW, and a scavenger hunt for DECA diamonds. Mr. NBW is a contest where boys at New Berlin West can come and show their talents. This went very well, attendance-wise, and the winner was Cooper Hanf. The diamond hunt was fun for many students. The diamonds were scattered all over the school, and the winner was Izzy Gonzalez. Her reward for finding the most out of every student was a 5 dollar gift card to Buffalo Wild Wings. DECA week was a successful week this year!
The next topic discussed was ICDC, the International Career Development Conference, is a competition where students have to qualify at DECA state to go and compete against students all over the world. Every year the location changes; in the past years it’s been in Florida, but this year it was in Atlanta, Georgia. The qualifiers from New Berlin West were Skylar Jakubiak, Mariah Flood, and Emalee Enyon. These 3 students are competing in SEM TDM and Start-up Business Plan. The girls have been there for a few days, as the trip started on April 25th, but their trip is coming to an end. The three are seniors and have been in DECA for a long time, as two of them are officers. The students will share their experience next month at the final meeting.
Coming up for DECA members. As we come to the end of this year, there will be one final meeting in May, where new officers will be announced. This year for DECA has been very successful, from new members joining to more people putting themselves out there for competition. There is one final summer opportunity for past members, current members, or joining members to volunteer at the Wisconsin State Fair Corn Roast. Many students enjoy this because they get to have fun with their friends, a free entrance to the state fair, and to get community service hours.
