As this school year wraps up, fun scenes are still taking place. Students are excited to forget about school and get on with fun summer activities, but there are still some interesting acts that have taken place before the final bell.
FISHY BUSINESS -
Sophomore Carson Bradford made history by being the first student to catch a fish during a New Berlin West English class. It is a yearly tradition for the 10th grade English class to take a walk down to the school pond and photograph the flora and fauna as part of a poetry mini-unit. Mr. Calvino's English class was meandering around the water when people started noticing fish in the pond. Bradford decided he wanted one and began fashioning a fishing rod out of a stick he found on the ground and a particularly long piece of grass. He lowered the grass into the water and waited for a bite, and the fish did bite. The first few times they fell off the grass. After about four attempts and five minutes of waiting, he finally made the catch to the sound of cheers from the other students present. When recounting the legendary moment Bradford exclaimed “I felt like a celebrity.”
The end of the year has been marked by reflections, projects, cleaning, and growth. The memories will be unforgettable, but it’s important to appreciate the next chapter and close this door.
