Prepared for soccer season

Prepared for soccer season

As the snow starts to melt and the spring weather arrives, our New Berlin West girls’ soccer team is prepared for a season to remember.  Tryouts began on Monday March 24th and the new Varsity coach Bell decide who would be playing for the Varsity team.  Each week since February girls planning on trying out for soccer, had diligently attended “soccer work outs” in hopes of bettering their chances of making it on Varsity.  In addition to getting in shape for the upcoming season, the captains expressed their hopes that these workouts would encourage team unity.

These work outs were led by senior captains Jenna Brezski, Lexi Porter and Kat Daigle.  Although Varsity coach Bell could not technically train the girls yet, Junior Varsity coach Stewart helped prepare the girls by giving them structure and work outs.  On Monday’s and Wednesday’s the girls had open gym in the weight room.  On Tuesday’s and Thursday’s the girls did cardio workouts.  Senior Rachel Butler feels that the work outs have prepared her physically and mentally for the season.

If the weather cooperates, the season consists of games being on Tuesday and Thursday nights. Tournaments are held on the weekends. The first tournament is on May 2nd and 3rd.  Senior captain Lexi feels that the teams’ chemistry on and off the field is important; she explains, “We know each other’s tendencies well.”   The goals for this season were very clear and seemed attainable when senior captain Jenna explains they are determined to, “win conference, beat Ike and go far in the playoffs.”
