April 7th was an exciting day for the Student Ambassador Leadership Union (SALU) as many members of the club gave speeches to fight for their spot on next year’s board. President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, and PR will all be filled next year with new, exciting faces that will run and oversee SALU. There were some wonderful candidates—many more than expected—applying to be a SALU board member. Common reasons that make students want to be a board member are their commitment and previous contributions to SALU; they want to become a bigger part of the club and be behind the scenes. The current president, Emalee Eynon, and the supervisor, Shanna Bradley, will be getting together early next week and making the final decisions based on the Google form that SALU members will be voting on no later than Friday at 3 p.m. At the end of the meeting, Eynon says, “There are good things to come for the board next year”.
Other exciting news from this meeting is teacher appreciation week, starting May 4th to May 8th. SALU had construction paper and markers to make cards for all the teachers in the school, saying thank you for all they do. The cards will be delivered to the teachers in a few weeks. Many other clubs and organizations do collective activities for teachers, like coffee and snack bars or bakery items.
Prom is right around the corner, on April 25th. It is one of the last events that the current SALU board will be in charge of; starting in the summer, next year’s board will take over. Soon, SALU will release information on theme days and the pep rally. SALU tries not to repeat the same theme on the same days and make them universal to all of the students at New Berlin West, so there is more inclusion. On the same note, prom tickets just came out and can be bought. Secure your spot!
