Deadpool, played by Ryan Reynolds in the 2016 film, is a charismatic character with many fans.

Before Seeing the Film:

The time has come! Deadpool has arrived after many years of failed attempts at an successful movie. The film has been developed for more than ten years. Ryan Reynolds previously played a different version of Deadpool in the 2009 film X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Many fans were angry at how the film portrayed Deadpool because his image and character were nothing like they were in the comic books. This film serves as a reboot for the character and a second chance for Reynolds.

The film is rated R, and in January, China released a statement that the film would be banned for its graphic content, nudity, and violence. This may not come as a surprise to many. It was debated whether or not the film should make clean cuts but the proposal was turned down because the cuts would affect the plot of the film.

I believe this film will be different from all of the superhero films out there because Deadpool isn’t your average hero; as a matter of fact, he isn’t really a hero at all. He stands in the middle between the good and bad guys. Deadpool is a former special forces operative who turns into a mercenary after being subjected to an experiment that leaves him with scars all over his body and accelerated healing powers. He is sometimes called the “Merc With A Mouth” due to his frequent use of foul language. He isn’t as serious as other Marvel characters and his image is meant to be comical.

After Seeing the Film:

I am very impressed at how Deadpool turned out. Not one minute of it was even close to boring. The tone was just right–the actors knew when to be serious and when to be funny, and handled every emotion perfectly. The acting was phenomenal; and funny. I laughed a lot.

Deadpool is a character who is difficult to cast perfectly, but I strongly believe that Ryan Reynolds was the right choice, because his personality fits perfectly into the role. Deadpool may be the film that makes his career.

I would give this film a 9/10 and I definitely recommend this movie for hardcore superhero fans because it was very funny and the fight scenes were well-choreographed.

I decided to ask four of my friends who also saw the movie on opening weekend what they thought of it.

Freshman Danny Turner rated the movie 9.5/10.

“I loved the fourth wall breaking because that’s what deadpool is about, goofing off and having fun,” stated Turner. Dislike: “I didn’t like how little they did with the villain because they barely included him. Due to budget cuts, they left a lot of scenes with him out and I feel that if they had Francis in more it would’ve been even better.”

Anthony Tordik rated the movie 9.5/10.

“I liked how they kept to the source material and it focused on deadpool as a character and didn’t drown us in boring backstory,” Tordik, a freshman, stated. “Some jokes did not hit as good as they could have, and it’s not everyone’s sense of humor.”

Freshman Kaleb Harenda rated the movie 9/10.

“One thing I liked is how during the whole movie, it’s funny and full of action,” Harenda said. Dislike: “I disliked how the action started off right away and they didn’t start off with the beginning.”

Freshman Ben Titra rated the movie 8/10.

“Ryan Reynolds did amazing when it came to the comedy part. The action scenes were great. I liked the comedy,” Titra said. Dislike: “I dislike how it dragged, meaning it went back and forth from the past and present.”

It seems as if everyone found Deadpool hilarious and entertaining. So, go see the movie if you get the chance; I’m telling you, it is worth it!
